MEMBERSHIP
For over 50 years, the Southern Association of Forensic Scientists has served a distinguished group of professional members in a variety of different forensic disciplines. SAFS counts over 300 members in its ranks and continues to provide support to the forensic community
through its offerings in continuing education, peer guidance and professional networking opportunities.
There are three types of membership available to qualifying forensic scientists:
Student Affiliate Membership: a limited three year membership available to any student enrolled in an accredited four year college or university, whose major field of study leads to becoming a forensic scientist.
Regular Membership: the standard level of membership for all members; requires two years of forensic experience, attendance at one SAFS annual meeting and a member in good standing’s endorsement.
Retired Status Membership: membership available to SAFS regular members who have retired from the professional forensics community but wish to remain active in the organization
Membership applications of all types are considered at the Business Meeting of the SAFS. Applications for student affiliate membership,
regular membership, or change to retired membership, must be submitted three months prior to the annual meeting of a given year in order to be considered at that year’s meeting. Upon acceptance of your membership you will receive a welcome letter from the SAFS Secretary and login information for the SAFS website.
Retired Status Application: log into your member account at safs1966.org to request retirement status. It is an option under your account tab.
Should you have any questions about membership in the SAFS, please contact our membership committee chairman.
